Head of Civil Service of the Federation HCSF, Olumuyiwa Enitan
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Olumuyiwa Enitan Abel, has inaugurated a nine-member committee to drive the implementation of the Renewed Hope Mass Transit Bus Scheme for Federal Civil Servants.
The committee is expected to develop the framework for the pilot deployment of electric buses and ensure the scheme provides affordable, safe and accessible transportation for workers.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja, Abel directed the committee to work with urgency, transparency and accountability, while eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks that could frustrate the initiative.
He disclosed that the pilot phase would begin with 10 electric buses operating on selected routes before the full deployment of the 100 buses earmarked for Federal Civil Servants.
According to him, the pilot would provide practical experience to refine the scheme and guide the deployment of the remaining buses, with the broader objective of establishing a sustainable staff transportation system across the Federal Public Service.
The committee’s terms of reference include identifying suitable routes for the pilot, developing a transparent enrolment and payment system, recommending affordable fares and establishing measures to ensure safety, security and accessibility, including for persons living with disabilities.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the scheme and commended the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Otunba Oluwemimo Osanipin, and his team for their collaboration.
The committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Dr Abdul Sule Garba, while Mr Nura Umar, representing NADDC, serves as Co-Chairperson.
The electric buses were launched and commissioned on August 26, 2026, under the Renewed Hope Transit Programme.
Earlier, Abel also pledged stronger collaboration between the Federal Civil Service and traditional institutions to promote national unity, strengthen governance and improve public service delivery.
He made the commitment when he received a delegation from the Ife Traditional Council, representing the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
Abel said sustained engagement with traditional institutions remained important to advancing national development and building resilient public institutions. (Daily Trust)
