Kidnapped children reunite with their parents
Two children, Jerome Onyechachi, 8-year-old from Rivers State, and 7-year-old Paul Chijioke from Enugu State, who were recently found in Anambra State have been reunited with their parents.
The children were reported to have been kidnapped by child stealing syndicates in Enugu and Rivers states and brought to Anambra State.
Following their discovery by a vigilante group in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, the state Command called on the general public to assist the police with useful information that could help trace the children’s patents.
A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed reads in part: “The good news is that today 18/12/2018, parents of both children came all the way from Rivers State where the children were allegedly stolen (one of them since October 2018) by child stealing syndicate and brought to Okija where the children are found and reunited with their parents.
“Recall that on the 15/12/2018, Vigilante group attached to Okija brought to Okija Police Station one Jerome Oyechachi ‘m’ aged 8 years of Rivers State and Paul Chijioke ‘m’ aged 7 years of Enugu State respectively.
“The Command issued an announcement and implored the public with useful information that could help trace the children's parents to contact the Command through the distress numbers provided.
“One of the victims was able to memorise the GSM number of his school aunty which was used by the Police to contact his parents.”
Mohammed said that effort is ongoing to apprehend the syndicate behind the dastardly act and bring them to Justice.
The Command also urged parents to always encourage their children to memorise their phone numbers as precautionary measures against any unforeseen circumstances.
