Late South-South Chairman Dan Osi Orbih
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South Zonal Working Committee on Wednesday urged the party’s national leadership to immortalise its late zonal chairman, Chief Dan Osi Orbih.
The committee made the call in a communique issued after an emergency meeting and signed by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Prince Etim Isong.
It also urged the national leadership to accord Orbih a befitting national burial, noting that he died while actively serving the party.
The committee acknowledged Orbih’s significant contributions to the growth, progress and stability of the PDP during his years of service.
It said immortalising his name would recognise his immense contributions to the growth and survival of the party.
The committee commended the PDP National Leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his support to the late zonal chairman.
It also appreciated the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, party stakeholders and Nigerians for their support and condolences.
The committee said the support received by Orbih while alive, as well as the condolences following his death, demonstrated the respect he commanded within and outside the party.
The meeting, attended by eight of the 10 members of the Zonal Working Committee, also constituted a committee to coordinate Orbih’s burial arrangements.
Chief Lesi Mao, National Ex-Officio representing Rivers State, was appointed chairman of the burial committee.
High Chief George Turnah, Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa, was appointed co-chairman, while Hon. Hillary Otsu, Secretary of the Edo State PDP, will serve as secretary.
Other members include the Deputy Zonal Organising Secretary, Efere Augustin; Isong; and the chairmen of the PDP in Edo, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
The Acting Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State and other party stakeholders are also members of the committee.
The committee pledged to work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure a befitting burial for the late zonal chairman.
