African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2012 winning movies are now being screened in Abuja, the Nigerian capital. Sponsored by Nigeria’s leading telecommunications service provider Airtel, the project will come to an end this Thursday, December 20.

The Abuja screening taking place at Silverbird Cinemas brings to an end, a hilarious six-city tour that began in Benin City, Edo State capital, in October this year with the screening of the movies Adesuwa and Otelo Burning, both winning entries, produced in Nigeria and South Africa respectively.

Other AMAA winners screened at Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Enugu centres were Alero’s Symphony and Man Ground.

The screening tour works like a mobile fiesta with all round entertainment that includes an after-party in exclusive clubs in the host cities where actors and their fans and other artistes mingled freely in a feast of music and comedy.

Speaking on the film screening road show, the Chief Marketing Officer of Airtel, Olu Akanmu, reiterated the company’s commitment to creating and sustaining platforms that would identify and celebrate Africa’s best and brightest.

“We are happy to be part of an industry that has brought so much drama, laughter and joy to millions of homes across Africa. It is in line with our plan to become the most loved brand in the daily lives of the people and we are focused on things that touch lives in a most pleasant way. The AMAA movie screenings have completed a full circle and have brought our movie stars closer to their fans in all the cities visited so far. This is also in line with our offerings as the best friends’ network,” Mr. Akanmu explained.

The Airtel-sponsored movie screening exercise has attracted the crème de la crème of the movie, music and dignitaries across various industries, including the media and the youth in every city where it has taken place.

The Abuja screening, which draws the curtain on what has been a most exciting two-month tour will feature the screening of Otelo Burning and Man on Ground.
