Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has won the maiden Nigerian Infrastructure Development Awards (NIDA).
At a colourful ceremony held on Thursday night, December 6, 2018 at the Function Suite of Lagos Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Dr Okowa was honoured for ‘his commitment to infrastructural development which is yielding great results’.
“This pragmatic Governor has been faithful to his well-publicised article of faith named Medium-Term Development Plan (DSMT-DP) 2016 – 2019, which embodies his social contract with his people,” the award organisers said in their Citation of Governor Okowa. They listed his achievements in just over three years in office to include over 320 road projects across the state, standardisation of the Asaba International Airport, and construction of a multi-billion naira Secretariat Complex.
The State Commissioner for Information, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, who received the award on behalf of the Governor, highlighted other achievements of the Okowa administration, among them completion of the world-class Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, which has become a favourite venue for the hosting of national and international sporting events.
Others who were honoured at the event included Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State; the Guest Speaker, Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola; Nigeria LNG Limited; Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA); AG Dangote; and the Chinese construction giant, CCECC.
The event was chaired by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Senator Olabiyi Durojaye.
