Sambo Dasuki, National Security Adviser, in crashed plane?

There is apprehension over the fate of Nigeria’s incumbent National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) following speculations that he was in the military helicopter that crashed around 4:30 p.m. today in a swampy area of Nembe in Bayelsa, President Goodluck Jonathan’s home state.

“We understand that the NSA might have been in the crashed plane but we have no confirmation yet,” a source close to his office told News Express.

Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State and immediate past National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi (retd.) have been confirmed killed in the crash. They were among big wigs heavyweights who attended the burial of the father of senior presidential aide Oronto Douglas in Nembe.

Azazi was removed as NSA last June 22 for failing to solve the Boko Haram insurgency in northern Nigeria, with Dasuki being swiftly appointed to replace him.

A one-time Aide de Camp (ADC) to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), Dasuki assumed duties on June 26 but his coming has failed to resolve the Boko Haram problem.
