The Save Adamawa Movement (SAM), a pressure group noted for its opposition to the Murtala Nyako administration in the state, has declared that the decision of the state lawmakers to impeach the governor has nothing to do with the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reacting to yesterday’s decision by the State House of Assembly to impeach Nyako and his deputy, John Ngilari, SAM in a statement made available to News Express said it had been vindicated and advised Nyako to blame himself for his travails instead of looking for whom to blame.
According to the group in the statement entitled ‘The Impeachment Notice Against Nyako; Save Adamawa Movement Vindicated’: “The impeachment notice against Gov. Nyako by members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly is a welcome development; As a matter of fact it’s been long overdue.
“All the facts adduced by the members are issues we in Save Adamawa Movement have raised as a group for nearly two years now.
“We resorted to court action to let the whole world know of Nyako’s MISGOVENANCE that has become legendary and has brought down the whole state. We had called for his resignation and or impeachment times and over before now.
“Now that the gross maladministration, overbearing family and friends governance have weighed heavily on the citizens, we applaud the bold steps taken by the members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
“We commend them for the bold step and applaud their courage in this direction; we urge them to stay focused and remain resolute to the course of salvaging the already battered state.
“We support totally every effort to set things right by the members, no one should point fingers to the PDP, PRESIDENCY or SOME BIG MEN IN ABUJA. None of these people are involved even remotely in the messy affairs of Governor Nyako.
“We are aware of desperate moves to hang the exercise on primordial sentiments, but we do not see how corruption, nepotism, total lack of administrative ability and a capital failure is any tribe or religious insignia.”
Nyako’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), however, feels otherwise and has promptly opposed the move to unseat him, APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, describing it as “unfortunate.”
He said: “Well, it is unfortunate, but we are already looking into it on how to deal with the situation.
“Let me give the legislators the benefit of doubt by saying I hope what they are doing is just a warning shot and it won’t go beyond that.”
Asked if the APC was suspecting the PDP as the sponsor of the impeachment move, Odigie-Oyegun replied: “I cannot put it beyond them. Definitely, they are behind it because they have money to play with.”
APC governors have also warned against the impeachment move against Nyako. APC Governors’ Forum chairman, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, said in a statement issued in Owerri that the energy being spent on the efforts to impeach Nyako could be expended to recover the over 200 schoolgirls abducted and kept by Boko Haram since April 14. He called on all those concerned to allow peace reign by forgetting about the impeachment move against the embattled governor.
