No fewer than 4,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State stormed Eruere community at the weekend, dishing out three days ultimatum to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, to choose between them and an Abuja-based businessman over the party’s ward and local government congresses.
They urged the governor not to destroy the party as a result of the ongoing congresses and the manner the governor was allegedly handling the differences arising from the exercise. They alleged that there was also the issue of double standards in treating leaders culminating in a huge pressure to move to another party.
The aggrieved members made allegations of marginalisation and deliberate attempts by the governor to surrender the party machinery to the Abuja businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, identified simply as Mr. Tony.
Present at the rally were seven councillors, seven ward chairmen, the local government party leader, Chief Shagari Oni, the disputed local government chairman, Chief S. P. Imolode, Friday Ojo, Chief Benson Eguoje, Chief Uwaifo Francis and Deacon Thomas Adeoyo, among others.
