Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised an alarm over the continuing attacks on places of worship by people suspected to be members of Boko Haram, warning that the attacks may spell doom for Nigeria is not checked.

The 65 years old politician made the observation while reacting to Sunday’s successful bombing of a church located inside a military barracks in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria.

He said this morning via Facebook: “I received with great sadness the recent attack on St. Andrews Protestant Church in Jaji of Kaduna state. The relentless bombing of worship places and other soft targets by mass murderers in the country must be halted decisively whoever they maybe, else it may produce consequences beyond the control of anyone. These murderers and their sponsors are posing a fatal threat to the unity and stability of our country. For this reason, national leaders must speak with one voice and common concern to defeat these criminals, who pose the greatest danger yet to the existence of Nigeria.

“Persistent attacks on worshippers in a country with deep religious sensitivity are a matter of national urgency that demands action rather than rhetoric.

“I therefore urge member of the community to expose suspicious elements among them for the good of society because harboring these mass murderers is an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

“There is a need for improved rapport between security agents and communities in exposing and defeating the murderers and their agenda. Security agents must be vigilant because the murderers also try to take advantage of the security lapses or poor judgement of those entrusted to defeat the wicked agenda. Fellow Nigerians, the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable. The deliberate mass murder of people for no just cause must be stopped before it plunges the country into further calamity. I send my condolences to the families of all those who lost dear ones in the attack.”
