Tension is now high at the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, over alleged blasphemy by a student, Madu Vitrus Sunday. A report by DAILY NIGERIAN said that angry Muslim students at the school are threatening to lynch the suspect, who allegedly “sent blasphemous posts in several WhatsApp groups within the campus on Sunday, drawing the ire of the Muslim students.”
“Angered by the post,” according to the report, “some of the hardline Muslim students vow to lynch the student if action is not immediately taken by the school.
“The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Law School chapter, however, wrote a petition to the school authority for “spreading callous and blasphemous statements against the Holy Prophet of Islam – Muhammad, PBUH, without any regards to the sensibilities of the Muslim students.”
“The Muslim students wanted action to be taken in accordance with Rule 3(5) of the Code of Conduct for Students of the Nigerian Law School.”
Security is said to have been beefed up at the school in a bid to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
