Yunusari local government council in Yobe state has rehabilitated a General viewing centre at Garin-gada village to counter violent extremism in the area.
The local government chairman, who was represented by the ward councillor, Dawa A. Doma said the project, funded by the Northeast Regional Initiatives (NERI), was aimed at educating the youths on dangers of drugs abuse, Boko Haram insurgency and other crimes.
He said they are working on educative films and programmes that would disabuse the minds of the young adults against all social vices and the importance of living in peace.
"Most importantly, the centre will help in bringing youths together and have a common goal that will develop the community.
"The rehabilitation was timely considering how majority of youths travel a far distance to watch the world cup and other films in commercial viewing centres," he added.
The centre was fully equipped with solar system and all other needed equipment.
The District Head of the village, Lawan Abubakar, said the viewing centre and the solar-powered borehole drilled in the community by NERI has restored their hope.
"The viewing centre would bring unity as much as the borehole will ease water scarcity for human and livestock consumption in the society" he added.
He promised to set up a community maintenance committee to take good care of the drilled boreholes.
