Gunmen
A gang of unknown gunmen has abducted Bibi Oweifa, an aspirant to the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
It was reliably gathered that Oweifa was kidnapped on Saturday near the state Secretariat Annex One in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He was billed to publicly defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday before the incident occurred.
Oweifa was said to be driving in his car with his personal assistant when the armed bandits double-crossed them and abducted him.
The hoodlums were hooded and dressed in military fatigue, it was learnt.
Oweifa, an indigene of Bumoundi community in Ekpetiama clan of Yenagoa LGA, is aspiring to represent Yenagoa Constituency 2 in the state House of Assembly.
Some of the political associates of the victim described him as “a grassroots mobiliser”.
It would be recalled that a cross-section of youths from Gbarain-Ekpetiama kingdoms had on July 11 endorsed him for the Yenagoa Constituency 2 seat.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the Bayelsa State Police Command proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat, did not answer call to his phone.
No group had claimed responsibility for Oweifa’s abduction as at the time of filing in this report.
