Gunmen on Tuesday assassinated Mr Solomon Sani, Director of Works, at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi, the Police said on Thursday in Lokoja.
Kogi Police Command Public Relation Officer, DSP William Aya, told newsmen that Sani was assassinated in his Idah residence on the evening of Tuesday, July 17.
He said that one of the brothers of the late director reported the incident to the police in Idah immediately after the gruesome murder.
Aya said that a police team was dispatched to the scene, adding that investigation is ongoing while the assailants were being trailed.
It was gathered that the incident had thrown the entire polytechnic community into mourning as the late Sani was just promoted to the position of director of works.
The police also stated that the kidnapped Obaro of Jakura town in Lokoja Local Government Area, Alhaji Usman Ajibola, was yet to be released by his abductors.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the monarch was kidnapped at about 6:30 p.m. on July 17, alongside his driver, Mr Raphael Elijah.
The monarch’s first son, Mr Rasheed Ajibola, was shot dead by the kidnappers. The ruler was returning to his domain from Lokoja when he was accosted by the five-man kidnap gang.
