Two unemployed men, Ramon Olowu and Mutiu Sasore, who allegedly cut off a man’s finger with a cutlass before stealing his phones valued at N80,000, on Monday appeared in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on Lagos Island.

The accused — Olowu 25, resides at No.17, Freeman St. while Sasore, 21, lives at No. 39, Adams St., Lagos Island.

They are facing a six-count charge of conspiracy, assault, grievous harm, stealing, unlawful display of arms and breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mameh, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences between July 12 and July
13 at Okepopo area and Freeman Street, Lagos Island.

Mameh said Olowu, while armed with a cutlass, assaulted the complainant, Mr Gerald Nwaneri, by cutting off one of his fingers.

He alleged that Olowu stole an Infinix phone worth N50,000 and a Nokia phone valued at N10,000 at cutlass-point, property of
Nwaneri.

According to him, Olowu also stabbed another man, Mr Toheeb Akorede, on his forehead and stole his a phone valued at N20,000.

Mameh said the second accused, Sasore, conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace on July 12 at 10.00 p.m.
at Freeman Street.

The offences contravened Sections 45 (2), 51, 168, 245, 280 (a) and 246 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 26.
