The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMD) says 262 institutions in the country will be delisted from the 2013 admission exercise for breaching stipulated guidelines and regulations.

“From our exercise of verifying admission compliance for 2011/2012, about 262 institutions were pencilled down for delisting from next year’s admission exercise,” Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of JAMB, Professor ‘ Dibu Ojerinde, announced today in Umuahia, Abia State.

Ojerinde disclosed that only 14 institutions have so far complied with admission guidelines and regulations.

The JAMB chief spoke at the opening ceremony of the Third Combined Technical Committee Meeting on Admissions to First choice, Most Preferred Degree, National Diploma, Nigeria Certificate in Education and National Innovation Diploma- Awarding Institutions.

The three-day meeting is being hosted by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Ojerinde said JAMB has already received a directive from the federal government to delist the defaulting institutions.

The guidelines and regulations violated by the affected institutions include the 70:30 Technology /Non-technology ratio for National Diploma programmes and 60:40 for Science/Arts ratio for universities and Colleges of Education.

The JAMB CEO also hinted that the affected institutions were breaching the federal government guidelines on Merit (40 per cent), Catchment (35) and Educationally Less Developed states (25) when he reminded them that the guideline was still very much in force.

Ojerinde enjoined all stakeholders to adhere strictly to these guidelines as the federal government is desirous of giving all Nigerians equal opportunity to mix and educate freely in any part of the country.”

As the meeting considers the first choice of most preferred institutions of candidates, he urged the participants to exhibit unflinching commitment to the overall improvement and development ofeducation in the country.

“It is only through education that the future development of the Nigerian child in terms of human capital development can be achieved. It is only through education that our children will acquire appropriate skills and technology that will lead to the sustainable development of the country,” the JAMB Registrar said.
