The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the zoning of the position of President, Vice President or APC National Chairman to the Niger Delta, saying that this is the only way to compensate the region for its invaluable contributions to the party.
“The sacrifices those of us in Niger Delta have made to make the APC popular in this area; if the party does not consider all these sacrifices and let us assume that President Goodluck Jonathan gets the ticket (of the Peoples Democratic Party), what would we depend on to ask Niger Delta people to vote for APC when there is no responsible or reasonable position given to us (Niger Delta)?” asked Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Rivers State APC Interim Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
Continuing, Chief Eze said in a posting on Nigeriaworld and some other Yahoo! communities: “So, if the position of the presidency, vice presidency or the chairman of the party is not ceded to this place, in other words, they are asking us to slow down.
“Therefore, any calculation, they (national APC) without putting this factor into consideration, they are not fair to the people from this area.”
The APC chieftain also commented on the attendance of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to the wedding of the adopted daughter of President Jonathan, saying it was not an indication that the Rivers helmsman was planning to return to the PDP, from which he defected on November 26 last year.
Eze rather explained that Amaechi’s presence at the wedding held last Saturday in Abuja showed that the Rivers State governor had a forgiving spirit.
