Editor fears for life, raises alarm

A Lagos-based Editor, Aruga Joe Omokaro (JP), has raised an alarm, saying that his life is in danger.

“I wish to inform the security agents, members of House of Representatives, members of National Assembly and the general public that my life is in danger,” Omokaro, Editor-in-Chief of the online newspaper, The SUPREME, said in a statement issued this afternoon in Lagos.

He said there have been “suspicious movements” around him since Sunday night when his paper published a story claiming that a South-South governor is “in trouble over N610bn” and vowed to unearth alleged financial misappropriation of the said governor in subsequent stories.

Omokaro said that while he did not initially attach much meaning to the “suspicious movements” around him, he was forced to do so following his experience in his residence yesterday night. His words:

“At about 8:25pm there was a knock on my door. For security precaution, I reduced the volume of my television, put off the lights in my sitting room and asked thus: ‘Who is there?’ There was no response. I asked again and a male voice answered: ‘I am looking for Evelyin.’ Then I asked again ‘who are you?’ Instead of identifying himself, he said, ‘she is my colleague.’ Then I told him that there is no Evelyn in my flat.

“I noticed that he was not alone, because I heard the footsteps of more than one person climbing down our staircase. I found out from all my neighbours that none of their families or visitors is bearing Evelyn.”

Contacted on phone, Omokaro (see photo) told News Express that he has reported the matter to the police.
