The Senator representing Borno Central in the Senate, Zannah Ahmed, yesterday raised the alarm, claiming that 210 people were killed Thursday night in attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on four towns (Dikwa, Kala Balge, Gambulga and Gwoza) in troubled Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
The victims, he said, included teachers at the raided Teachers College, Dikwa, and scores of students travelling to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Senator told newsmen that Kala Balge was the worst hit, saying that 60 people were killed there by the rampaging armed men. He said after they left Kala Balge, the invaders went berserk and attacked three other towns in the area where a total of 150 persons were killed.
The attackers, according to Senator Ahmed, were all dressed in military uniforms and spoke English Language and “did not look like Boko Haram.”
He said “it was unfortunate that when the Army post in Gamboru Ngala were informed, they went back after covering few kilometres as the soldiers insisted that it was outside their command area.”
The Senator disclosed that people of the area have been fleeing to Gamboru Ngala and to neighbouring Cameroon.
He said he just had to speak out because his people were being killed on a daily basis.
Hear him: “It is a must for me to speak since the people lives are involved and they are my people. All these are happening in my constituency and it will be wrong to keep quiet. I feel so much pained and would not have spoken but definitely my conscience will not let me do that.”
