Obiano kicks off ‘Operation Keep Anambra Clean’ •Parleys with journalists

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, yesterday kicked off ‘Operation Keep Anambra Clean’ in the four senatorial zones of the state beginning with Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of the state.

Speaking at a media parley tagged ‘Meet the Governor’, Obiano pointed out that the operation, which will ensure that all drainages are kept clean, is aimed at sanitising the state. He disclosed that Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) will henceforth distribute nylon garbage bags for people to use in clearing their environment.

The governor noted that the main cardinal points of his government – Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Commerce, and Industrialisation – still remain paramount.

According to him, “We will mechanise all the fertile lands in the state with a focus at producing majorly maize, cassava and rice. That’s the revolution; we want to take quantum lead in food production and through that more jobs will be created and it will resolve the number of idol people in the state.”

Obiano further revealed that fishery will be introduced at the Anambra State College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu, and used as a medium to teach students preservation of fish so that they can learn to do ‘Mangala fish’ (dry fish), adding that on graduation, they will be provided with employment.

On Oil and Gas, Obiano said that his government is working towards producing 25 barrels of oil a day so as to attract oil and gas-based industries to the state.

While pointing out that he has submitted a list of 19 commissioners and 10 special advisers to the state House of Assembly for approval, he urged journalists to ensure that they verify their facts before filing their reports. He assured that his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. James Eze, will always be within reach for clearance on any issues that may arise.

The governor called on journalists to be friendly to the government as he will also be a friend of the media.

“I want to be your friend and get to know you individually and I want you to also be our friend. We know the importance of the media and we cannot run the government without you,” he stated.
