Governors elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today vowed to throw their weight behind the governorship candidate of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Rising after their meeting in Dutse, Jigawa State, the governors under the banner of the PDP Governors’ Forum, said they would give “total support” to the two gubernatorial candidates in the forthcoming elections to ensure victory for the party.

In a communique issued at the end of their meeting and signed by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Chairman of the Forum, Chief Godswill Akpabio, the Forum also appealed to aggrieved aspirants to close ranks and work for the success of the party.

According to the communique, “The Forum congratulates the winners of the aforementioned primaries, their excellencies, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore of Osun State, and pledges total support to the two candidates to ensure victories for the PDP in the upcoming gubernatorial elections.

“The Forum calls on aggrieved aspirants and members of our great party in the two states to bury their personal ambitions and hatchets and to work together with the candidates so that we can record a resounding victory for the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. The Forum appeals to the candidates to find accommodation in any way possible for other aspirants and other party faithful.”

The governors also condemned the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for its criticism of the court judgement on the defection of PDP lawmakers to the opposition party. According to Governor the communique, “The Forum congratulates our great Party the PDP, for its victory in the High Court over the defection issue and describes it as a victory for the rule of law.

“The Forum however condemns the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for their persistent denigration of the judiciary in the aftermath of judgments in the country and warns that such acts are capable of inciting lawlessness in the society. We should not play politics with the law. We should allow the law to guide our democracy.”

On the security situation in the country, the PDP Governors' Forum praised the efforts of security agencies in curbing insurgency in the country but asked them not to relent in the face of mischievous allegations peddled against them.

The meeting which was described by the host Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido as very successful also commended him for the developmental strides in the state. It was attended by 15 Governors and four Deputy Governors of PDP extraction.
