Late human pro-democracy and rights icon Gani Fawehinmi
Eminent Lawyer and Activist, Ebun-olu Adegboruwa has urged the federal and Ondo State Governments, to immortalise late Chief Oyesola Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, SAM, LL.D, whom he described as the icon of peoples’ struggle, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
In a statement issued in Lagos last Thursday, Adegboruwa also called on the National Assembly and the Houses of Assembly of Lagos and Ondo states, to dedicate a substantial portion of their daily proceedings to honour Gani.
“I urge all activists and lovers of Gani to join us on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota, at 12pm, to immortalise our hero. Thereafter the family and friends and well wishers will gather at the Gani Fawehinmi Galleria in Alausa, at 1pm, for the 80th birthday anniversary lecture, to be delivered by Prof Wolè Soyinka.
He thanked the Lagos state government, led by Akinwunmi Ambode, for the steps taken to revive the statute of Gani. “When I got a call from Alausa yesterday, informing me of this development, to unveil the rebuilt Gani Fawehinmi Statute, I was very pleased and excited, coming on the heels of his 80th post-humous birthday anniversary, on Sunday, April 22, 2018,” he remarked.
