Protests rocked the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday when a large number of external security guards, cleaners and other manual workers trooped out in their numbers to express their grievances over the non-payment of 13 months salary by the management.
As observed byNews ExpressCorrespondent who witnessed the scene this morning, the protesters, who are not under the payroll of the Federal Government, gathered at the East Gate side of the hospital and trekked through the Alexander Brown Hall (ABH) to the main gate of the Hospital.
They were seen singing solidarity songs.
One of the workers, when engaged during the protest, said: “This is grossly unacceptable and i see this as fighting for our right. The money belongs to us and we must be given. It is wickedness on the part of the management.”
Another who also craved anonymity also stressed: “The management is callous. We cannot continue to be working and suffering. We have children at home who expect us to give them money but we have nothing to give. We cannot tolerate this any longer.”
