Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano; Aliko Dangote, Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2Baba; Banky W; Oby Ezekwesili; The Ighodalos; Tunde Bakare; Lanre Olusola; Ibukun Awosika; The Adeyemis; Aisha Oyebode; Tonye Cole; Kelechi Amadi-Obi; Banke Meshida-Lawal: Omawumi; Jumoke Adenowo; Funke Bucknor-Obruthe; Mai Atafo; Leke Alder and Akin Oyebode will all be auctioned today at a fundraiser event being organised by Enough Is Enough Nigeria, a non-profit organisation. Venue is Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, from 6pm to 10pm.
According to the organisers, “The event tagged ‘Light A Candle’ will highlight EiE’s work on citizen engagement and public accountability over the last 8 years and it’s plan for the next 4 years, while raising money for its electoral programmes by auctioning items and time with some of Nigeria’s best and brightest.
“Over dinner, guests will enjoy performances by 2Baba, Aramide and Timi Dakolo.The theme, Light A Candle is derived from W.L Watkinson’s phrase: “Yet is it far better to light the candle than to curse the darkness” to remind Nigerians to take action and complain less.”
Yemi Adamolekun, Executive Director of EiE Nigeria added in a statement: “The phrase is at the heart of our work to educate citizens on their rights and responsibilities, so that we move from ranting to acting and occupy the “Office of the Citizen” the highest office in the land.”
In eight years, EiE Nigeria has led youth-focused campaigns, mobilising the electorates to ask the right questions and make informed decisions during and after the electoral process. EiE’s RSVP message feeds into its Office of the Citizen campaign. As citizens Register, Select credible candidates, Vote not fight, Protect their votes on election and in the four years between election cycles by occupying their Office of the Citizen.
