The people of Abak Federal Constituency comprising Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika local government areas in Akwa Ibom have endorsed the aspiration of Governor Godswill Akpabio for Senate in the 2015 general elections.
In a motion moved by Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, member representing Abak Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and seconded by Hon. Friday Iwok, member representing Abak State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, the people yesterday re-affirmed their support for the governor’s senatorial ambition.
In a voice vote, the people unanimously adopted Akpabio as their senatorial candidate in 2015. From one speaker to another, they pledged their loyalty and support to the governor.
Mr. Uwem Nwoko, Chairman of Governing Council, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osorua, applauded the governor for the development strides of his administration, especially the completion of Afaha Obong-Etim Ekpo-Urua Inyang Road.
Nwoko, however, reminded Akpabio to redeem the pledge made for the construction of Ikot Ebengwang-Iwukem Road and Ikot Udo-Barracks Road. He said the people of Abak Federal Constituency have mandated Governor Akpabio to represent them in the Senate in 2015.
Obong Christopher Paul Ukpe, the paramount ruler of Abak, called for the renovation of Primary School, Ikwek Afaha Obong, St. Mary’s Science School, Abak, Mercantile Secondary Commercial School, Abak, as well as regular payment of stipends to office of the paramount ruler.
A PDP stalwart, Dr. Emmanuel Ukpong, lauded the free education policy of the present administration but called for the relocation of Mobile Police Barracks, Iwukem, construction of Ekparakwa-Ukanafun-Iwukem Road and renovation of Iwukem High School.
In his contribution, Major-General George Umoh (retd.) commended Governor Akpabio for fast-tracking the development of the state and the various political appointments given to indigenes of the federal constituency.
Also speaking, PDP strongman Obong Akpan S. Akpan appreciated Chief Akpabio for his unprecedented performance, and appealed to him to construct Obo Ekpo-Mkpok Etok Road and Offiong Market road leading to the palace of paramount ruler of Etim Ekpo.
Victor Udoette, Youth Leader, assured the governor of their support in his senatorial ambition, but called for empowerment of the youths and appointment of Ika indigene as a commissioner.
On her part, Lady Veronica Usoro, Women Leader, thanked the governor for the execution of people-oriented projects in the state and the governor’s wife, Unoma, for alleviating the plight of the less privileged especially the widows, complaining of refusal of some politicians in the constituency to carry women along in the scheme of things.
