Unimpressed with the worsening state of the economy, especially the rising incidence of poverty and hardship, unemployment, and persistent scarcity of fuel in the country, a cleric has warned the Federal Government, National Assembly members and state governors to stop playing politics with the destiny of Nigerian masses who voted them into office, or face imminent wrath of God, over the continued treasury looting, insecurity and various shades of corruption being committed under their watch.

Prophet Francis Onwudiwe Otukwu, General Supervisor of ThankGod Awaited Liberation Ministry, Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos, stated this last Sunday, during the ministry’s Ascension Day, in commemoration of their Founder/Son of Man, who transited on February 25, 2009, after a glorious mid-week service.

Reassuring the congregation of God’s protection and provision for those loyal to the world of justice, despite the prevailing untoward state of the economy and politicking by leaders at the various strata of government, he regretted that rather than address issues of corruption in high places, rising unemployment, insecurity and crippling petrol scarcity, government is more concerned about criticism of the administration in the social media, in the guise of fighting hate speech, instead of preventing hate acts of wasting innocent lives.

His words: “The government faces an uphill task of fulfilling its 2015 electoral promises. While all the Chibok school girls are yet to be rescued as pledged, over 100 students of another secondary school in Dapchi, Yobe State, have been abducted by same Boko Haram terrorists, even as Fulani herdsmen have become deadlier, killing hundreds of fellow Nigerians and sacking several communities across the country, unchecked. As unemployment and poverty increases so does kidnapping and violent crime threaten the life of Nigerians on the road, in the city and in villages.

“Yet, media reports indicate that the nation is still losing billions to various shades of corruption, nepotism, reward for mediocrity by the executive, while federal legislators are self-serving lords unto themselves, with little or no regard for transparency. Dependants of toiling public servants at state and local government areas endure delayed salary payments, just as most pensioners wait indefinitely for gratuities and pensions, after serving their fatherland with their youthful energy. God is angry with the political leadership over this sorry state of affairs, because while the common people suffer, the elite and their families and acolytes live in affluence.”
