The New Lagos Movement (NLM) has commended Nigeria’s main opposition party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) for hosting a National Summit during which it presented its manifesto, programmes as well as code of ethics to the electorate ahead of the 2015 general elections.
NLM, however, said this is not enough and tasked APC to ensure the implementation of the manifesto and programmes.
The group in a statement issued at the close of its bi-weekly meeting held at the White House, GRA Ikeja, described APC’s National Summit as the first of its kind by any political party in the country’s recent political history and a right step towards truly living up its “Change” slogan.
It added that: “Consistent with our belief that the human person, most especially, the economically vulnerable, should be at the centre of all economic policies and development agenda, we urge the APC to make the implementation of its Road Map, as presented in Abuja, people focused.” This, according to NLM, will clearly demonstrate that the party is set to place the country once again on the part of progress and development, if the leadership of the party is genuinely committed to its manifesto beyond political rhetoric.
NLM in the statement signed by Comrade Michael Popoola Ajayi further stated: “As a movement committed to being the catalyst for change within the political landscape of Lagos State, we would have wished the road map emanated bottom-up; from the rank and file of the party rather than the leadership initiating it at the national level. However, we have prepared all necessary platforms to partner with the party in popularising the APC Road Map and Ethical Code among electorates in the state.”
NLM admonished APC “to commence without delay, the implementation of the programme in the 16 states which are under its control, as a demonstration of its commitment to the ideals contained in the manifesto and the Ethical Code.”
