Governor Abubakar
Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State has reiterated his administration’s determination and commitment towards ensuring peaceful coexistence among the followers of the two major religions in the state.
He spoke on Thursday when he received in audience the Catholic Bishops of Bauchi Diocese led by Rev. Father Bishop Hillary at the Council Chamber of the Government House.
The Governor explained that he, from the inception of his administration on May 29, 2015, “set out a machinery in motion to have a state where all and sundry live together in peace, unity and harmony.”
The idea, according to the Governor, is to give a sense of belonging to the people of the state irrespective of religious or ethnic inclinations.
He further stated that to ensure the required results, he appointed a Special Assistant, Christian Liaison, and another aide for non indigene affairs. He maintained that Bauchi State is a multi-cultural society and equity for all is his grand rule, stressing that there are no second class citizens in the state as all citizens are equal and are living peacefully without discrimination.
Governor Abubakar promised to look into the possibility of establishing a centre for peace in the state and an increase in government sponsorship to Jerusalem pilgrimage.
The leader of the delegation, Dr. Hillary Dachlem, expressed the loyalty and support of the Bauchi Diocese to the present administration in the state and also thanked the Gov for the support rendered to them.
He used the forum to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for addressing the issue of insecurity and efforts being made to tackle corruption in the country.
He also commended the Governor Mohammed Abubakar for being fair to the Christian community in the state, prompt payment of salaries and provision of developmental projects across all the nooks and crannies of the state, especially human capital development.
Rev. Father Hillary equally appreciated the Governor for being fair and objective to all, including the Christian community, urging him to continue in that regard.
