Ohanaeze President General Nnia Nwodo
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has criticised the ten-man committee set up by the Federal Government on the Fulani herdsmen-farmers’ clashes as wrong and panacea to a deadly ailment.
President General of the organisation, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in a statement yesterday, said that the committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would not bring solution to the festering ugly development.
Nwodo who wondered how the Federal Government could set up a committee to reconcile “murderers with the murdered”, said it was an indication that government was not serious with finding lasting solutions to the problem.
Chief Nwodo stated that pronouncements by the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) were evidence that they were culpable for the carnage across the country and wondered why they were not arrested and prosecuted instead of setting up a committee.
Ohanaeze which stopped short of pronouncing the federal government of taking sides in the killings by herdsmen said that it had expected that invaders who violated the law enacted by a State in the country to face prosecution instead of the “condescending and patronising stance of the Federal Government.”
It stated that the Federal government in refusing to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the heinous crimes in the country was suggestive of its complicity and bias on the matter.
Ohanaeze further said that the setting up of the committee was a violation of the law courts where such cases of murder should rightly be decided instead of turning them into mere communal clashes which further encourages the Fulani herdsmen.
