Chinaza Okafor,a student of Starlight Secondary School, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State; her mother, and a yet to be identified third party have been arrested by the Police for the death of a school teacher.
The deceased, Miss Rita Odilinye, was an Igbo teacher and class mistress at the school.
The teacher was said to have found out last Friday morning that her class was not swept and she demanded from the students in the class why it was so.
The students reportedly told her that it was Chinaza's turn to sweep the class the previous day after school hours, but she failed to do so. When the student was queried by her teacher, she was said to have answered in a sarcastic manner.
According to our source, Okafor's carefree response angered the teacher and she flogged her.
While she was being flogged, Chinaza was said to have ran out of the class and scaled the school fence as the gate was locked and made straight to her house where she reported to her mother.
The mother was said to have armed herself with sticks and returned to the school with her daughter in company of one other person to avenge her daughter.
On arriving the school, Mrs Okafor could not see the teacher as she was said to have gone to represent the school at a meeting of private schools.
Efforts made by co-teachers to calm the Mrs Okafor with plea to allow the school authority handle the case by itself proved abortive as she swore to deal with the situation by herself.
When their target was nowhere to be found, Mrs Okafor, her daughter and their accomplice left the school premises.
But they met the teacher at the gate on her way back from the meeting.
Immediately Chinaza pointed at her, Mrs Okafor pounced on the teacher, flogging and beating her up with the help of her daughter and the other unidentified person.
When the beating could no longer be contained by the teacher, she slumped and died on the spot.
As she slumped, the trio fled the scene and the teacher was rushed to Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital where she was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area, Mr. Mark Ijarafu said the Police have arrested the three suspects.
He added: “The corpse of the teacher has been deposited at Iyi-Enu mortuary, while investigation is on-going.”
