Senate President Bukola Saraki
The Senate has named the members of the committee to probe the clash between the agents of the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which occurred on Tuesday in Abuja.
Senate President Bukola Saraki during the plenary on Thursday, announced that the adhoc committee would be chaired by the Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Francis Alimikhena of Edo North. Other members are: Senators Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West); Mohammed Lafiaji (APC, Kwara North), Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu North), Abdul Aziz Nyako (APC, Adamawa Central), Robert Borrofice (APC, Ondo North), Fatimat Raji Rasaki (PDP, Ekiti Central), and Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central).
Operatives of the security agencies clashed openly over attempted arrest of former Directors-General, Ita Ekpeyong and Ayo Oke of the DSS and NIA respectively by the EFCC.
On Wednesday, Melaye had raised a point of order, stating that the incident caused “environmental brouhaha” and urged the Senate to investigate the matter.
Saraki also named another committee to look into the security structure of the country. This is sequel to a motion raised by Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura (APC, Zamfara North) on Wednesday over the recent killings in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The members of the committee are: Senators Abdullahi Yahaya (APC, Kebbi North), Paulker Emmanuel (PDP, Bayelsa Central), Joshua Lidani (PDP, Gombe South), Abubakar Kyari (APC, Borno North), Barnabas Gemade (APC, Benue North East), Abdullahi Adamu (APC, Nassarawa West), Olusola Adeyeye (APC, Osun Central), Abiodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South), Enyinnaya Ababribe (PDP, Abia South), Sam Egwu (PDP, Ebonyi North), Rose Oko (PDP, Cross River North), and Magnus Abe (APC, Rivers South East).
The committee is headed by the Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan.
Both committees will be inaugurated next week.
