Biafra War Veteran, Dr Ramas Asuzu
A Patron of Biafra War Veterans, Dr. Ramas Asuzu, has attributed the emergence of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu to a perceived leadership vacuum in Igboland.
Addressing journalists in his country home, Nri in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, Asuzu observed that the marginalisation of Ndigbo was as a result of the defeat of Igbos in the Nigeria/Biafra War.
While noting that the Igbos are the architects of their misfortune, the Biafra War Veteran described the agitations of IPOB as a fruitless venture.
He observed that IPOB was having a smooth sail until Kanu came to the scene and hijacked it for selfish purpose, adding that Igbo people appear to like noise making.
According to him, Kanu’s drive for agitation for freedom and secession through hate speeches though not an invitation to violence, would not work.
He added: “There were no due consultations and Ndigbo failed to come to the round table for exhaustive deliberations on burning issues before taking actions.
“I warned against the agitation because it was another step in Igbo nation for our children to be massacred.”
The war veteran further explained that Kanu’s drive for agitation for freedom and secession through hate speeches would not work and was an invitation to violence.
Asuzu called on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Constitutional Conference Report, saying that he never associated himself with Nnamdi Kanu’s agitation for Biafra sovereignty.
