Anambra PDP governorship candidate Oseloka Obaze
The standard bearer of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra State, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has blamed the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for the decline in the standard of education in the state.
Obaze spoke while receiving a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Anambra Consensus Project. He decried a situation where the state has lost its number one position in standard examinations set by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO), unlike what it was during the last administration of former governor Peter Obi.
Outside education, Obaze noted Anambra though declared an oil producing state is not yet earning oil revenue.
According to him, “Anambra had expended enormous resources over four years totaling over N455 billion in appropriated funds, N75 billion in savings, over N60 billion in foreign and domestic loans, yet did not have commensurate infrastructure to show for those expenses.
“The state had fallen from its number one ranking in national examinations to sixth and seventh positions in WAEC and NECO respectively.”
Obaze further said that if Anambra State social and development infrastructure were crumbling due to lack of maintenance, then the state was facing a serious crisis that needed to be addressed urgently.
