Biafra activists during a procession
The Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Monday condemned the renewed military invasion of the home of the father of Nnamdi Kanu, Eze Israel Kanu, at Afara Ukwu, Abia State, describing the action as primitive and cowardice.
In a statement made available to journalists in Awka and signed by MASSOB's National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson, the group said no amount of intimidation would stop Biafra agitators from continuing with the struggle.
While condemning what it described as "primitive and brutal approach used by the Nigerian security agents against non-violence civilians", the group said that President Buhari “cannot destroy the Biafra consciousness.”
The statement reads in part: “The international community should prevail on the Nigeria Army to stop raiding our home again.
“We have been telling the Army to produce my bother whose whereabouts has remained unknown since after the September 14 military invasion of our compound.”
Edeson further described the action of the Nigerian security agents as “signs of cowardice and Buhari’s government frustration on the eloquent consciousness and realities of Biafra freedom which is being appreciated and acknowledged by internationalcommunities.
“MASSOB and other pro-Biafra agitators are not cowed or intimidated by this sheer acts of over-zealousnessand ethnic hatred of the people of Biafra by Hausa Fulani dominated Nigeria security apparatuses.
“Even in these persecutions, arrests, extra judicial killings, subjection and detentions of non-violent, pro-Biafra agitators, we shall continue to maintain our non violence principles.
“MASSOB and other pro-Biafra groups are the political masquerades of Ndigbo. We shall continue to be the pride of Ndigbo, upholding the vision of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.”
MASSOB also called on South East governors to be sensitive on Biafra issues in order not to fall into what it described as “the political trap of the Hausa Fulani intimidation through President Buhari.”
On the issue of IPOB’s sit-at-home declaration against the November 18 Anambra State governorship election, MASSOB said pro-Biafra groups were yet to reach an agreement on boycotting the exercise or declaring a sit-at-home order on the election day.
The group added: “MASSOB must be tactical and sensitive in considering the wills and civil rights of the citizens.
“We shall consult and deliberate widely on the positive and negative implications of such exercise in Anambra State.”
Kanu’s family had on Sunday raised the alarm that soldiers invaded their compound again with Kanu’s younger sibling, Emmanuel alleging that soldiers carted away some household items in the course of the invasion.
According to him, the items included television, generating sets and clothes, among other belongings of the family.
Confirming having an operation in the area, the military however denied removing any household items from the compound.
The Army said: “We were there in search of weapons, no household items were removed from Kanu’s home.”
