Late Alhaji Kasali Akanbi Akinyemi
Ogun State High Court Judge, Justice Abiodun Akinyemi, has lost his father, Alhaji (Chief) Kasali Akanbi Akinyemi, at the age of 92.
Head of the Akinyemi/Mosuro Balogun families and patriarch of the prominent Arogunmola Clan of Ota, Ogun State, Alhaji Akinyemi passed away on September 30, 2017.
Born on May 1st, 1925, Pa Akinyemi had his early education at CMS School Ota. He later left for Ijebu-Ife at the age of 10, where he finished his Standard Six at Baptist Primary School, Ibelu, Ijebu-Ife. He also benefited from tutelage from the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife with whom he lived during his formative years.
Thereafter, he became a stenographer at the Oba Marun Court, Ijebu Ife. He later joined the University of Ibadan as a pioneering staff, before leaving for the North to join the Nigerian Army from 1950-1960.
Pa Akinyemi later left the Army to work at Joe Allen Apapa, after which he went into private transportation business.
A prominent community leader and grassroots politician, he was chairman, Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in Ajeromi Ifelodun Olodi Apapa, Lagos, where he lived for many years before retiring back home to Ota in 1999.
Pa Akinyemi was the Baba Adinni of Olorunlose Mosque, Ijanagangbo, Ota and Life Patron of Iyedi Tuntun Community Development Area, Ota. He was also a committed family man.
He is survived by his wife, Alhaja Surakatu Akinyemi and several prominent children, grand and great grand children, amongst whom are university professors, a judge, successful lawyers, bankers and many other professionals.
They include Dr Rasheed Akinyemi of the Department of Political Science, University of Lagos who has also been Visiting Professor of many reputable foreign universities; Prof Nurudeen Akinyemi, Director, Center for African & Diasporan Studies, Kennesaw University, Atlanta USA; Mrs Risikat Akinyemi, a Businesswoman; Hon Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of the Ogun State High Court, Barrister Lekan Akinyemi, Barrister Idris Akinyemi, Mr Yomi Akinyemi and Basirat Akinyemi. Pa Akinyemi was buried on Sunday, October 1st, 2017 according to Islamic rites. Information made available by the family also indicates that Fidau Prayers/Reception will hold on Saturday, October 7th, 2017.
