APC chieftain lauds Akpabio over performance, declares him a progressive

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (ACP), Barrister Adebayo Shittu, has lauded the performance of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, describing it as five-star.

“This is one governor who is a PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) member with a progressive heart,” Shittu said on the Splash FM personality interview programme Voices in Ibadan, monitored in the Oyo State capital.

Shittu, who is an APC governorship hopeful in Oyo State, launched into praise of Akpabio while reacting to a question which sought to know if all the PDP governors that defected to the APC were now progressives.

According to Shittu, “Progressivism is not about a party; it is a thing of the mind. If you are conservative joining a progressive party will not automatically make you a progressive. There are a lot of conservatives with progressive tendencies and vice-versa.”

Continuing, he said: “As a student of Awolowo politics, progressivism should be seen in our actions and dispositions to governance rather than a party platform one rode to power . . . Look at what the young man in Akwa Ibom State, Governor Godswill Akpabio, is doing for his people. He is a PDP governor but from his actions and performance, he is a progressive. Would you now say because he is not in my party, he is not a progressive? Progressivism is in the heart and not political platforms.”
