The serene atmosphere enjoyed by the people of Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State is being threatened following the omission of the name of Hon. Emmadan Chima from the list of members of the Transition Committee to represent Avu/Oforolar Ward.
Hon. Chima, a frontline politician and chairman of Agenda Elders’ Forum in the council, was said to have been nominated by Governor Rochas Okorocha at Ahiajoku Convention Center where all political bigwigs in the state were present. “He became surprised when his name was trickily substituted with one Dorothy Okere whom the report allegedly confirmed was not a registered member of APC in the area,” a source close to Hon. Chima said.
The source lamented the fate that has befallen Hon. Chima, a coordinator of the Movement for the Survival of the Igbos (MOSIP) in Owerri West LGA, recalling how he worked assiduously for the emergence of Governor Okorocha during the 2011 general election. The source expressed unhappiness that “some disgruntled elements who think that government belongs to them alone thwarted the order of the governor who single-handedly picked Hon. Chima for the position.”
Unwilling to accept what he believes to be a clear case of injustice, Hon. Chima has fired a protest letter to Governor Okorocha over the issue. In the letter dated January 18, 2014 he said he was “totally disillusioned and disappointed” by the unexpected turn of events.
Hon. Chima advised that Governor Okorocha’s “directive should be followed for the interest of the entire citizens of Avu/Oforolar Ward one, and for justice sake.”
The cheated grassroots mobiliser has meanwhile called on “all leaders in Owerri west LGA and Imo State at large to intervene urgently to avoid any breakdown of law and order.”
