APC NWC Chairman Jim Nwobodo
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State have raised alarm over alleged move byone of the governorship aspirants of the party to compromise members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Senator Jim Nwobodo-led election committee ahead of the party’s primaries for the selection of its candidate for theNovember 18poll.
In a statement made available to journalists in AwkaonWednesday, the group, led by Chief Walter Okoli, urged the National Executive Council (NEC) and the leadership of the party to look into the matter before it was too late, even as he vowed to resist any such move from any quarter.
They specifically fingered one of the new entrants to the party as being behind the move to bribe the committee and the NWC to modify the delegates’ list in his favour.
“Our forum finds this disgusting, fraudulent and against every good thing APC stands for and we are poised to expose every single detail of this plot as well as the characters involved in the alleged gratification.
“The party members are being mobilised to resist any attempt to modify the delegates' list to create undue advantage for any aspirant.
“It is also seriously being rumoured that some desperate aspirants are attempting to compromise Dr. Jim Nwobodo, who is a former Governor of old Anambra State, a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a distinguished Senator, which we find difficult to believe.
“We do not believe that the revered Chief Nwobodo will allow such a thing to happen as everybody in the southeast holds him in high esteem. We want to believe that his name is being dropped by some desperadoes.
“We, the APC stakeholders’ forum, advise all aspirants to go to the party delegates to canvass for votes and support, instead of going through the back door to seek evil and dangerous short cut to the party ticket.
“We promise those involved embarrassment and shame if they continue with this nefarious act,” Okoli said.
The group further claimed that some governorship aspirants had become desperate over the election, alleging that they were planning to compromise those in charge of the primaries.
While saying that 14 aspirants from the three senatorial zones of the state are jostling for the ticket of the party, the group dismissed media reports that three aspirants had already been picked for the ticket, arguing that some aspirants had become afraid of free, fair and credible primaries.
They maintained that because of fear, some aspirants are therefore looking for ways to cut corners to achieve underserved victory during the party’s primaries.
