Suspended NHIS Executive Secretary, Prof Usman Yusuf
The Integrity Youth Alliance has called on Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to arbitrate in the face-off between the Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, and the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the Alliance, Kelvin Adegbenga, the IYA urged the Acting President to sack Prof Yusuf for daring the Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole by refusing to go on suspension.
Adegbenga said in the statement issued on Monday in Abuja that it was wrong for the suspended NHIS boss to challenge the Minister of Health, who is the Supervisor for NHIS and to still be parading himself as the Executive Secretary of the government agency.
The statement said: “We totally condemn the House of Representatives for its involvement in the ongoing face-off. The position of the House of Representatives by backing the NHIS boss amounted to conflict and shows the body as a House of twofold personalities.
“If the House of Representatives applauded the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, why then supporting the corrupt activities of Prof. Yusuf? We don’t want to believe in the public opinion that money must have exchanged hand between the suspended NHIS Executive Secretary and the House.
“We still wonder why the lawmakers pushing for the recall of Prof Yusuf who should by now be answering questions from the investigative committee over the 72 petitions received so far, bothering on financial impropriety, gross misconduct and flagrant disregard for the civil service rules and the Procurement Act.”
The group called on the Acting President to sack Prof Yusuf now in order to convince Nigerians about the sincerity of purpose of the Muhammadu Buhari administration on the anti-corruption crusade.
