Police recruits
nThe Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has said the police would recruit 155,000 personnel within five years to bridge the gap of manpower shortage in the organisation.
Idris, who made the disclosure Friday in Kano while briefing newsmen at Government House Kano, said 31,000 personnel would be recruited every year.
He said the Nigeria Police Force was faced with serious shortage of manpower, noting that between 2011 and 2016, the Force had not recruited ranks and files personnel.
He said: “We have serious gap of manpower but the Force is determined to bridge the gap.We want make the Force to work according to the standards of the United Nations chatter of one police man to 400 people.”
He said the Police would continue to support other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties of the citizenry.
On the quit notice issued to Igbo by some northern youths' organisations, the IGP said no single individual had the authority to eject Igbo any other ethnic group from any section of the country.
“Everybody has the right to stay where he or she wants. All I want to say is that people should respect the religion, culture and tradition of each other so that we can have peace and harmony in the country. But nobody has the power to eject any Nigerianfrom a section of this country,” he assured.
The IGP, who was in the state for a condolence visit over the death of Danmasanin Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule, said the demise of the late orator was a great loss to the nation. (Daily Trust)
