A coalition of Civil Society Groups, Peace in Nigeria Project, has unveiled a One Million Peace and Unity Signature Register.

Martin Igwe, National Project Coordinator of the coalition, in a paper he presented at the National Secretariat of the Association of Commercial Tricycle Owners and Riders of Nigeria on Thursday, disclosed that his group decided to start the campaign from the Association’s office because of the role their members are playing towards peace and unity of the country and the need for the members all over the country to explore the window the coalition is providing towards peace and security education with the University of Abuja.

He said: “Your members have provided jobs to millions of Nigerians, especially youths who graduate yearly without employment, this singular opportunity being created for our vulnerable members of the society has contributed immensely towards reducing youth restiveness, armed robbery, kidnapping, etc.

“It is our realisation of your contribution that we adopted you today as official member of the steering committee of the Peace in Nigeria Project. Our expectation is that from today our message and programmes will be channelled through you to millions of your members all over Nigeria.

“Peace, Unity and Love are the ultimate forces that can guarantee safety of live and anticipated investment opportunities which the government needs at this point of economic challenge. From the words of Martin Luther Jnr, ‘we can no longer worship the god of hate or bow before the altar of retaliation, the ocean of history are made turbulent by ever rising tides of hate’. History is cluttered with the wreckages of Nations and individual that pursued this self defeating path of hate, peace, unity and love are key ingredients to the solution of the problem of our country.

“Let’s leave politics for politician and rise to give a new direction to a generation drifting rapidly to its doom.

“Credible, peaceful national census, credible peaceful future general election, economic recovery policies, will never be realised in an environment of social tension hence with collaboration with an organisation like yours we are assured of realisation of our vision which is a peaceful united developed Nigeria.

“God bless Commercial Tricycle Owners and Riders all over the country, God bless United Peaceful Nigeria.”
