Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through its Medical Services Branch, has organised yet another Medical Outreach at the Camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Banki, Borno State.
The outreach was initiated by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, following reports of the deplorable medical condition of several IDPs. Banki, which is a border town with Cameroun, has about 42,000 IDPs.
During the two-day medical outreach, the NAF Medical Team attended to many health cases among which were malaria, typhoid and diarrhoea cases among the children.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, “The NAF medical personnel carried out 4 minor surgeries on three children and one adult while also taking deliveries of 3 new babies.”
The statement disclosed that the team attended to cases of cataract and other eye-related problems. It added that the NAF medical team conducted training programme on family planning and contraceptives for staff of Borno State Primary Health Care Development Agency and UNICEF to handle high-risk pregnancies, which have been found to be prevalent in the camp.
News Express reports that NAF, as part of its humanitarian interventions in the North East, has embedded two emergency hospitals at Dalori and Bama IDP camps. It has also conducted various medical outreach programmes at the IDP camps in Gwoza, Benisheik, Mainok and Jakana.
