Bode George: Investigate trial judges, EFCC prosecutors —Lawyer who predicted Supreme Court verdict

A seasoned international lawyer who predicted yesterday’s reversal of the conviction of former Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board Chairman, Chief Bode George, by the Nigerian Supreme Court has called for the investigation of the prosecutors and trial judges.

“As I predicted in many writings, the Nigerian Supreme Court reversed the conviction of Bode George,” Emeka Ugwuonye, Esq., who practices in both the United States of America and Nigeria, said while reacting to the verdict.

He said that the decision of the apex court “finally takes away one more bragging right from the EFCC and those who orchestrated that extraordinary manipulation of the Nigerian justice system. Any lawyer with any serious and original intellect would know that the conviction would be reversed. It was a travesty that cost Justice Salami his career and claimed so many victims.”

Ugwuonye told News Express that “the Nigerian Government should immediately open an investigation into the actions of the prosecutors and the judges in this case at the trial level.”

He predicted that “such investigation would reveal massive corruption in the judiciary and within the EFCC and the prosecution team.”

Ugwuonye, who was once unjustly detained by the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission), mocked the commission’s immediate past chairman, asking: “Now, where is the shameful Mrs. Farida Waziri who kept citing the conviction of Bode George as the flagship performance of the despicable and most corrupt EFCC?”
