The Osun State Police Command has arraigned a 71-year-old man, Akande Sulaiman, before an Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly coronating the traditional ruler of Irepodun, Oke-Osun, Osogbo without the consent of appropriate authorities.
Police prosecutor Adegoke Taiwo told the court that the accused person forcibly installed one Prince Abdulwahab Adegboyega Oladunjoye as the Baale of Irepodun against the authority of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.
He said that Akanbi did the unlawful coronation on January 25, 2017 at Irepodun, Oke-Osun.
He added that the offence committed by the accused person is contrary to and punishable under section 249(d) and section 516 of Criminal Code Cap 34, volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
In his plea, the accused person pleaded not guilty of the charge levelled against him. His counsel, Barrister Adeyinka Dada, prayed the court to grant her client bail in the most lenient term.
In her ruling, Magistrate Falilat Sodamade granted the accused person the bail of N50,000 with one surety in like form and adjourned the case tillMay 11, 2017.
