Breaking News: BOMB SHAKES ABUJA? •Panic as fire rages

Four days after Boko Haram insurgents launched devastating attacks on military facilities in troubled Borno State in North-East Nigeria, panic this afternoon gripped residents of the country’s capital, Abuja, following deafening explosions in the Central Business District.

A few minutes ago, Total and Oando filling stations located not far from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Tower went up in inflames, throwing the city into panic.

People are scampering for safety in panic as the fire rages. It is not yet clear if the explosions and resultant fire are the handiwork of terrorists.

News Express recalls that several people, including the terrorists and security agents, died on Monday in an early morning Boko Haram operation in Maiduguri. The Nigerian Air Force Base offices, staff quarters, club house and five aircraft were completely burnt down.

During the attacks, residential buildings such as semi-detached bedroom flats and offices with staff quarters newly built by the Borno State Government at the 33 Artillery Regiment base were also completely razed by the terrorists. The area accommodates hundreds of JTF operatives and the Divisional Police Station in Gomari Airport Ward of the metropolis and 50 military vehicles.

Abuja has had its own share of terrorist attacks, the targets including the UN Building as well as THISDAY and Sun newspapers.
