The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has promoted 6,043 senior and junior officers across various ranks and cadres to boost personnel morale and enhance operational efficiency.
The Service Public Relations Officer, CSC Jane Osuji, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Osuji said the promotions, approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), also included the upgrading and conversion of eligible officers.
She said 4,760 officers benefited from the promotions and upgrading in the senior cadre, while 1,283 others benefited from promotions, upgrading and conversion in the junior cadre.
According to her, the exercise includes the upgrading of 159 officers to the Superintendent Cadre and 129 others to the Inspectorate Cadre.
She added that 743 Chief Correctional Assistants were also converted to Inspectors of Corrections.
The PRO said the approvals were conveyed through official communications from the CDCFIB dated Oct. 26, Nov. 2 and Nov. 4, 2026.
She quoted the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, as commending the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his support and commitment to the welfare and career advancement of personnel.
Nwakuche also appreciated the CDCFIB for approving the exercise, describing it as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to staff motivation and institutional development.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to demonstrate greater responsibility, professionalism, integrity and dedication to duty.
The controller-general reaffirmed the service’s commitment to personnel welfare and professional development to strengthen its mandate of safe custody, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders. (NAN)
