Twenty-One exotic cars were affected by a fire that engulfed a mechanical workshop on Oladunni Street, Isheri-Idimu, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Friday.
The fire, which broke out at about 3.05 am beside Eternal Filling Station, was contained by emergency responders before it could spread to the nearby petrol station and surrounding buildings.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Dolphin Response Team, stationed at Igando, was immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.
The team worked with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force to extinguish the fire.
In a statement, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said preliminary assessment showed that about 21 exotic cars were affected, while a section of a nearby building sustained minor damage.
He said the fire had been completely extinguished and damping-down operations concluded.
No casualties or injuries were recorded.
Oke-Osanyintolu commended the emergency responders for their swift intervention, which he said prevented the fire from spreading to the filling station and other nearby structures.
He urged residents, particularly mechanical workshop operators, to observe safety measures when handling inflammable materials. (The Nation)
