Abia State Police PRO, DSP Maureen Chinaka
Two senior police officers have been killed in an early morning attack by hoodlums on the Uratta Divisional Police Headquarters in Aba, Abia State.
Three inspectors also sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
The Abia State Police Command disclosed this in a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chinaka.
According to the command, at about 02:26 am on Saturday, unidentified armed hoodlums attacked the division with explosives, resulting in a fire that damaged part of the building and the divisional patrol van.
Chinaka said no firearms or ammunition were carted away by the attackers.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, personally led an operational team comprising tactical units of the command to the area.
“The team combed the surrounding environment and restored calm, while intensified security operations and monitoring are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement reads in part.
CP Afolabi condemned the attack and assured that the perpetrators would not escape justice.
“The Commissioner of Police has condemned the attack and assured that the perpetrators will not escape justice. He emphasised that the Command will deploy all necessary operational and intelligence resources to identify and apprehend those responsible, assuring that the hoodlums will be brought to justice,” the PPRO said.
The command extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers.
Residents were urged to remain calm and vigilant and to support the police with credible information.
“Information can be reported at the nearest police station, through the suggestion boxes and contact details of the DPO’s provided at police divisions, or via the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006,” the statement added. (The Sun)
