Palpable fear has taken over Matogun community in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State following the killing of a youth identified as Boko Daniel. The deceased was allegedly beaten to death by some landlords in the community after he was accused of stealing some unnamed items on September 28, 2026.
According to sources, the incident occurred close to Suru Block area of Matogun where Daniel, popularly called ‘God’s Grace’ was brutally beaten to death by some irate landlords.
While some residents corroborated the stealing allegation against the deceased, his friends were said to have claimed that Daniel was wrongly accused and killed, setting off an outrage and threats of reprisal.
“The whole incident happened in a flash after Daniel was chased by some landlords to the spot where he was attacked and brutally assaulted for stealing some undisclosed items.
“No one could say exactly what he stole to warrant the fatal brutality meted out to him in full public glare.
“In the course of the brutality, he was smashed with hard objects to the extent that his testicles were damaged before he slumped and died right on the spot.
“His attackers even filmed the scene with their phone camera,’’ a witness said.
The incident has triggered outrage by youths in the community who protested the killing and called for the arrest of the masterminds and for justice.
One of the angry youths who identified himself simply as Sammy, said: “It is an act of lawlessness to resort to jungle justice by killing a suspect in broad daylight.
“It is even more worrisome that some of those behind this dastardly act are landlords in this town, who, rather than reporting the matter to the police or other law enforcement agencies, took the law into their hands and subjected Daniel to extra-judicial killing.
“Daniel was cruelly killed. They tied him to a pole with a very strong rope and started hitting him with sticks and machetes.
“Some of the weapons hit his private part, damaged his testicles and he died.
“The youths are angry, and we are calling on police authorities to arrest the people who carried out this act on an innocent youth who was wrongly accused, judged and executed by heartless leading members of this community.”

Meanwhile, sources told our reporter that the deceased was a member of the secret cult known as Eiye Confraternity, and that his group members have threatened to attack those responsible for Daniel’s brutal killing.
The threats by his cult group, according to sources, are already causing tension in the community and adjoining towns like Oke-Aro in the last few days.
“Those who killed Daniel used their multimedia phone to record the scene and posted it online.
“Already, we learnt that members of the Eiye cult group to which Daniel belonged when he was alive have vowed to avenge his death.
“The situation in this community is one of fear, as no one knows whether or not the cult group could make good their threat anytime soon.
“No one has been arrested since the tragic incident occurred, and the fear of reprisal is unsettling this community right now.
“Hence, we are urging the police to step up surveillance of this community to forestall violent attacks which could also lead to the killing of other innocent residents,’’ a youth who asked not to be named said.
Footage of the incident posted online showed moments at the scene where some persons were brutalising the deceased while he was tied to a stake at nightfall.
A cacophony of voices from the mob armed with sticks and machetes threatened to kill Daniel, saying: “We shall mutilate your body, you unfortunate being. We will make you dance before killing you… we will strip you before setting you ablaze…we will burn you alive…we will stab you to death.”
The victim was heard pleading that he was not a thief, but the irate residents turned deaf ears to his pleas as they continued to brutalise him at the scene.
Efforts made to get police response on Thursday were fruitless. An inquiry sent to the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Oluseyi Babaseyi, had not been returned at press time. (The Nation)
