The house belonging to Hon Mahmoud Shaaban
Outrage has erupted over the demolition of a multi-billion naira mansion belonging to a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mahmoud Sani Sha’aban Dan Buram Zazzau, in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The property, located at Plot No. 3, Churchill Road, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Zaria, was allegedly pulled down in defiance of a subsisting court order, in connection with an ongoing legal dispute over an alleged debt between the ex-lawmaker and Alhaji Abubakar.
Sha’aban represented Sabon Gari Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2007.
The demolition sparked protests in Zaria, where residents and supporters staged a peaceful demonstration to sympathise with the former lawmaker and demand justice.
Since the incident, groups, associations, and individuals from within and outside the country have continued to visit his residence in solidarity.
One such group, the Bala Ahmad Tinubu for President Ambassadors, led by its Coordinator, Hon. Ahmad Dan Premier, condemned the act and called for urgent intervention by the Kaduna State Government and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Considering Sani Sha’aban’s contributions to the growth of our party, it is necessary for APC members across Nigeria to sympathise with him. This is one of the most serious and tragic incidents I have witnessed in my lifetime,” Dan Premier said.
Representatives of hunters, mechanics, traders, as well as Christian and Muslim groups who also visited, described the demolition as unjust and called on authorities to ensure the rule of law prevails.
Responding, Hon. Sha’aban thanked sympathisers and expressed dismay that the demolition was carried out while the matter was still before the court.
“This matter is before the court, yet they took the law into their own hands. I have nothing to say other than to continue praying to Almighty God for His intervention,” he said.
“As human beings, we must accept whatever God has destined for us. I am waiting for the outcome of the court proceedings, and I await the court’s next judgment,” he added.
The incident continues to draw reactions, with stakeholders urging the Kaduna State Government and APC leadership to intervene and ensure justice is done. (The Nation, excluding headline)
