The Nationwide League One (NLO) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against clubs registered under its platform for participating in the N-Youth League, which it describes as an unauthorised competition.
The league disclosed this in a statement published on its official social media handle.
It warned affiliated clubs against participating in football competitions that have not received the requisite approval from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other relevant authorities.
According to the NLO, the N-Youth League had not provided evidence of current recognition or authorisation for the 2026/2027 season as of the date of its declaration.
It noted that any approval granted to the competition for the 2024/2025 season would not automatically authorise its operation in subsequent seasons without renewed approval.
The NLO Secretariat consequently urged the competition’s organisers to disclose their identities and provide documentary evidence of the necessary authorisation for the current season.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Operating Officer of the NLO, Dr Olushola Ogunnowo, reiterated the league’s commitment to enforcing football regulations and ensuring that affiliated clubs operate within the recognised structure of the game.
Ogunnowo said compliance with the league’s rules and regulations was a fundamental obligation for all registered clubs.
The statement cited Article 3:01 (6) of the NLO Rules and Regulations, which prohibits registered clubs and players from participating in private leagues outside the recognised national league structure under the NFF.
It added that the disciplinary proceedings would be conducted in accordance with the applicable regulations.
The NLO warned that clubs found culpable could face sanctions, including suspension or expulsion from the league, subject to the prescribed procedures.
It advised affected clubs to withdraw immediately from the competition and discontinue related activities to avoid possible sanctions.
The league also urged its affiliated clubs to verify invitations to competitions, tournaments and organised match series before accepting them.
It advised clubs to report suspicious or unsolicited invitations to the Secretariat for verification before making commitments.
The NLO reiterated Its commitment to maintaining discipline, protecting the integrity of its competitions and ensuring that affiliated clubs comply with the regulations governing organised football in Nigeria. (NAN)
